For most standard residential pools in Ontario, a 250,000 BTU heater is the perfect sweet spot for balancing heating speed and efficiency. However, if you have a larger pool or want rapid, on-demand heating, upgrading to a 300,000 BTU unit is an excellent choice.

• The Gas Line Catch: You cannot simply swap a small heater for a massive one. Upgrading to a larger heater (like 300k or 400k BTU) often requires a larger underground gas line to supply enough fuel. If your line is too small, the heater will starve for gas and fail to operate safely.
