Why is my pool water cloudy even though chlorine levels are high?
Your pool water may be cloudy despite high chlorine due to Chlorine Lock, elevated Cyanuric Acid (CYA) levels also know as stabilizer level, high phosphates, or inadequate filtration. When CYA levels exceed 70–100 ppm, chlorine becomes chemically bound and loses its ability to sanitize algae or bacteria. Which causes the pool to turn cloudy and go green.
- Common causes: Overuse of stabilized chlorine pucks, heavy pollen/dirt buildup, or a dirty pool filter.
- How to fix it: The only way to lower CYA is to dilute your water by partially draining and refilling your pool.
