HOW DOES A POOL HEAT PUMP ACTUALLY WORK?
Think of it as an air conditioner in reverse. Instead of blowing cold air into a house, it pulls solar heat from the outside air, upgrades it via a compressor, and transfers that warmth directly into your pool water. It doesn’t “create” heat through combustion (like gas); it simply moves it.
IS A HEAT PUMP CHEAPER TO RUN THAN A GAS HEATER?
Yes—significantly. While a gas heater is faster, a heat pump is roughly 70% to 80% cheaper to operate. Because it uses the ambient air temperature, you get about $5 worth of heat for every $1 of electricity (hydro) you spend.
WILL IT WORK WHEN IT'S CLOUDY OR COOL OUTSIDE?
Absolutely. As long as the air temperature is above 7°C to 10°C (45°F–50°F), there is enough heat in the air for the pump to harvest. It doesn’t need direct sunlight to work, just moving air!
